This is not 100% true. If you create an event under your own personal profile then you are able to message attendees etc... however if you create the event under a fanpage then you are simply limited to "Updating" fans of that page.

If you create the event as being owned by a page, you can only send updates. If you create it as being owned by you, you can still send messages.

I agree with you about building groups on face and I am glad to a have read your insightful tips about facebook and twitter. There is much to be gained from twitter and facebook to those who have websites. I have joined groups that are of my niche market. With twitter, one should think of having a contest on his/her website then announcing it on twitter.

Hello from beautiful Montana:

Okay, this is the third article I have been led to in the last hour that was authored by Steve Pohlit. Something tells me I had better listen to what he has to say.

thanks for sharing.

Why groups vs fan pages? At least with the Fan Page your updates show up in the newsfeed. Groups, your message gets lost. I too was not happy with non-ability to message Fans who have registered for an event - this seems to be a fatal flaw!

Thank you for the heads up. I was not aware that an event did not have a messaging feature. I had assumed that as the event co-ordinator I would have that ability in case there was a last minute time or venue change that needed to be announced. Definitely going to have to rethink some strategies!
